Do you ever feel like no one gives you enough credit? The God who sees has never overlooked a single detail in your life.
You know you’re capable of more, but to others you always seem to blend into the background.
That quiet ache isn’t new. In fact, it shows up in one of the earliest stories in Scripture. That ache is one God understands. In fact, one of His names in Scripture is “The God Who Sees.”
The God Who Sees
“So she named the LORD who spoke to her: The God Who Sees, for she said, ‘In this place, have I actually seen the One who sees me?’”
Genesis 16:13 (HCSB)
Hagar’s Story
The story of Hagar is a complicated one, often told from Abram and Sarai’s perspective. They failed to trust God to provide what He had promised, and Hagar was caught in the fallout.
After being used and discarded, Hagar ran into the wilderness. She hadn’t handled everything perfectly herself either, Scripture says she “treated her mistress with contempt” before Sarai made life unbearable. Still, here she was: lost, hopeless, and discarded.
And that’s where God met her.
He reminded Hagar that she was never outside His care. The One who made her had never stopped valuing her. What happens next is remarkable: she names God. Few in Scripture do this. She calls Him El Roi…the God who sees. In that moment, she realized what had always been true: she was never invisible to the Lord.
When You Feel Unseen
Maybe you’ve felt some of that same ache. Overlooked in your home. Dismissed at work. Even unnoticed in church.
The reminder here isn’t that everything suddenly gets easier. It’s that the Lord sees you fully, not just what you do, but who you are. He sees your value because He put it there.
Where in your life do you feel unseen right now?
Write it down, then beside it write this truth: God sees me here.
Prayer
Lord, thank You that nothing about me is hidden from You. You see the parts of my life no one else notices, and You understand the thoughts I can’t quite put into words. Help me rest in Your care today, even when I feel overlooked or unsure of my place. Teach me to trust that Your attention is steady and kind, and that Your presence is not dependent on how visible I feel to anyone else.
Remind me that being seen by You is enough. When discouragement rises, bring to mind the truth that You are the God who sees me, the same God who met Hagar in the wilderness and called her by name. Give me eyes to recognize the ways You are working, even in small and quiet moments. Strengthen my heart to walk in faith, to keep doing the next right thing, and to believe that my story still matters because You are in it.
Hold me close, guide my steps, and help me live this day with a settled confidence that comes from being fully known and fully loved by You. Amen.
