When the Inner Critic Gets Loud
There’s a voice in your head that’s been playing on repeat. I know, because I’ve heard it too. And it’s not the kindest one. The enemy is subtle like that, twisting truth just enough that it sounds like humility, like realism… but a lot like defeat.
But what if you could tune into something different? Something quieter but more true?
What if, instead of the lies, you let the truths God says about you rise to the surface?
Before diving into these, I want you to know, these aren’t just nice ideas. These are the truths God says about you. The ones that don’t change, even when the lies get loud.

Truth #1: You Are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
Psalm 139:14
“I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, and I know this very well..”
If I’m being honest, I’ve read this verse many times and just glossed over it. But, I want you to go back and read it, really read it.
You were fearfully and wonderfully made. It wasn’t an accident. It wasn’t something God did on a whim. He didn’t throw some ingredients in a pot and hope for the best. He crafted every part of you with intention. If you’ve ever taken the time to about the human body and how it works, you know how detailed and amazing it all is. But, it’s deeper than that. Every bit of you, down to the way you think or the way you laugh, is intentional.
And that ache deep down in your soul to feel useful, to feel valuable? It’s not vanity. It’s a longing to live as the woman God uniquely formed.
Truth #2: You Are Seen, Even in the Small Things
Luke 12:7
“Indeed, the hairs of your head are all counted. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows!”
Friend, I know sometimes it feels like no one notices. I’ve felt what it’s like to be in a room full of people and fade into the background. Sometimes, sure, we do it on purpose. People assume we’re just the behind-the-scenes type. But let’s be honest, that’s not always the intention.
Sometimes people just don’t see you.
But God does. Every tear, every quiet sacrifice, every ordinary day you showed up anyway…it all matters to Him. That’s one of the truths God says about you, you are seen.
Truth #3: You Are Worth More Than the Sparrows
Philippians 4:19
“And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
Provision isn’t just about full bank accounts and full bellies. It’s about God seeing your needs, all of them. And one of the truths God says about you is that He sees it all: the need for connection, the need for more of Him, the ache in your body, the heaviness in your heart. And it’s about Him moving on your behalf, even when you can’t see it yet.

Truth #4: You Are Not Alone in the Fog
Joshua 1:9
“Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
If things feel foggy right now, know you’re not alone in it. If you’re like me, you tend to believe you’re the only one who feels this way. Like everybody else has it figured out. They know where they want to go, they just need to map the route.
And here you are, not even sure where to start. You’re ready and willing to take the first step. You just need a direction.
But God doesn’t just wait on the other side of clarity. He walks with you through the questions. And sometimes the fog is exactly the place where He’s preparing you for what’s next.
Truth #5: You Are Made on Purpose, For a Purpose
Ephesians 2:10
“For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them.”
I’ve been thinking lately about how women like you and me tend to feel like we’ve missed our chance, and how God can still use us at any age.
Then this morning, I was listening to a book called The Element by Ken Robinson, and he talked about that very thing. He mentioned that Ben Franklin invented bifocals at 78, and Grandma Moses didn’t start painting until she was 78 too.
Even if it feels like you missed your window, you haven’t. There is still work prepared just for you. Work that might not look like a stage or a spotlight, but looks an awful lot like faithfulness and purpose.
A Small Step to Remember

If any of these felt hard to believe, start small. Write down one of these truths God says about you. Put it where you’ll see it: on your mirror, your dashboard, or inside your Bible or notebook. Let it interrupt the lies.
